For the past few weeks reports have been coming through on Phil Collins’ struggles with nerve damage and now Rolling Stone has published an article with more information. It reports that the one time singer/drummer of [lastfm]Genesis[/lastfm] has a good prognosis and is putting the finishing touches on a new Motown covers collection. The article also quotes Collins as saying:
The first time I picked up the drum sticks after my neck surgery, they flew across the room because I couldn’t grip them…When I play, I’ve had to tape the sticks to my hand. It’s like wearing a condom. It’s very strange. It really cramps your style.
Collins’ medical problems makes a Genesis reunion tour in the near future unlikely. But Collins says he still hopes to perform with the Peter Gabriel-lead lineup of Genesis at some point. Genesis is one of the few progressive rock bands inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Phil Collins perseverance is commendable and 104.3 WOMC wishes him all the best and hopes for a strong recovery!
