Today In Rock History – John Denver’s “Sunshine on My Shoulders”

Denver was a prolific artist.  He recorded over 300 songs, having written 200 of them himself.  Some of his most well known songs include  “Leaving on a Jet Plane”, “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, “Rocky Mountain High”, “Sunshine on My Shoulders” and “Thank God I’m a Country Boy.”

Denver was named Poet Laureate of Colorado in 1977. In 2007, Colorado’s Senate made “Rocky Mountain High” one of the state’s official songs.  In addition to Denver’s successful music career in the 1970’s he was also a political activist and a humanitarian.
