Attention cruisers, before you head out to the Woodward Dream Cruise clean out your pantry and fill up your trunk then swing by the Phoenix Center and do a whole lot of good for hungry Metro Detroiters!
Daniel Cahill, known as the contestant who lost the most weight in the history of NBC’s hit show The Biggest Loser, is now focusing his time not on eating but on helping those who are hungry.
Cahill will be speaking at Oakland Christian Church in Oakland County (OCC) at 10 a.m. on Sun. Aug. 22. Attendees will enjoy a barbecue afterward. With this event, the members of OCC will be helping the Greater Pontiac Community Coalition Project donate cans of food to homeless shelters within Oakland County, especially within Pontiac.
“With the food shortage at local Pontiac food banks, Oakland Christian Church decided to take action along with a few other local churches to help reduce this need,” said Dominic Russo, Senior Pastor of OCC.
The food drive is taking place Fri. Aug. 20 through Sun. Aug. 22 during the Woodward Dream Cruise in downtown Pontiac at the Phoenix Center. The drop-off times are Friday, August 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, August 21 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. And then from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. If you decide to attend the event on Sun. Aug. 22, bring at least one can of food to help the hungry. Members of the church will drop off the cans to the Phoenix Center on Sunday afternoon.
“Not only are we excited about the food drive and helping out the community, we are extremely excited to bring in Danny Cahill from The Biggest Loser who supports our food drive initiative and will help us collect it on that Sunday he speaks. After the message we are excited to give back to the community in another way: with a free BBQ, inflatables and more. This day is really all about community,” said Jason James, Office Manager of OCC.
