Ray Charles and Johnny Cash Previously Unreleased Duet ‘Why Me, Lord?’

cashcharles Ray Charles and Johnny Cash Previously Unreleased Duet Why Me, Lord?

In 1981, [lastfm]Ray Charles [/lastfm]and [lastfm]Johnny Cash[/lastfm] recorded [lastfm]Kris Kristofferson[/lastfm]’s ‘Why Me, Lord?’ together.  The duet was never released. That will change on October 26 when Concord Records releases a compilation of Ray Charles rarities titled Rare Genius: Undiscovered Masters.

Both Ray Charles and Johnny Cash near the top of my” all-time favorite musicians” list.  What they had in common, more than anything, was sincerity of voice. They each had naturally originality, making them effortless icons. It seems only right that they’d some how end up collaborating despite the gap in their musical genres.

I have not yet heard their version of “Why Me, Lord?”  but if it is anything like the duets they sang on The Johnny Cash Show, we are all in for a real treat!

Rare Genius: Undiscovered Masters Track Listing:

1. Love’s Gonna Bite You Back
2. It Hurts To Be in Love
