Westland Apartment Fire Leaves 39 Families Homeless

A huge fire at the Waynewood Apartments on Monday night destroyed 40 units, leaving 39 families homeless. Fortunately,  no citizens were injured in the fire, but many of them were left with nothing but the clothes on their backs as they fled their apartments. I cannot imagine how horrible this is for these people, right before Christmas too.  The Westland Fire Department will be accepting donations for these folks who lost everything.
The Westland Fire Department  Local 1279 has already stepped in to offer some assistance to these families in need. They have purchased Meijer gift cards for all 39 families. In addition, with the help of our Fire Marshall division we are collecting clothes, shoes, coats etc. Just imagine you lost everything, how devastating that would be. These folks certainly need our help.

Donations will be being collected at Westland Fire station 1 on the corner of Ford Rd. & Central City Parkway. They are looking for everything from winter coats to children’s toys and everything in between.

In addition, a fund-raiser dinner has been set up at Marvaso’s in Westland. Marvaso’s is located in the strip mall on the NW corner of Wayne and Hunter. The dinner is Dec 22 5:00-9:00 it is $20 adult $5 children under 11. 100% of the proceeds are to be donated to the victims and their families.  Any questions can be directed to Fire Captain John Adams, and he can be reached at 734-467-3261.
