Remember how exciting it was when the Detroit Red Wings secured the services of Sergei Fedorov?  Actually he defected from Russia.  He may be gone but not forgotten and his Sergei Fedorov Foundation is doing a lot of good in the Detroit area.

When he was on his game, #91 put on some amazing skating moves for the Red Wings.  And like so many other pro athletes in Detroit, Sergei Fedorov gave back to the community.  And he still is through his Sergei Fedorov Foundation.

Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee held a news conference yesterday to announce that five different Detroit area charities would be receiving $40,000 from the foundation this year.

Benefiting this year are the Detroit Police Athletic League, Crime Stoppers, Detroit Police Foundation, YWCA Interim House, and the NOBLE Scholarship Fund.

Since the foundation was created in 1998, it has handed out an estimated $800,000 to charitable organizations.

Okay the question you’ve been asking:  “What’s Sergei up to now?”  He’s currently playing hockey in Russia for the Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
