Another piece of music history related to television happened on this date in 1971.

The [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sonny and Cher[/lastfm] Show began with a guest shot on The Merv Griffin show in the summer of ’71.  Execs at CBS, yes that’s us by the way, saw talent and decided to run with it as a summer replacement show at the end of that summer.  That, in turn, led to the full fledged show which debuted on December 27th, 1971.

The show went through several iterations and name changes but enjoyed good ratings success.
