Another piece of music history related to television happened on this date in 1971.

The [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sonny and Cher[/lastfm] Show began with a guest shot on The Merv Griffin show in the summer of ’71. ¬†Execs at CBS, yes that’s us by the way, saw talent and decided to run with it as a summer replacement show at the end of that summer. ¬†That, in turn, led to the full fledged show which debuted on December 27th, 1971.

The show went through several iterations and name changes but enjoyed good ratings success.
