Most people in the Motor City know [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Supremes[/lastfm] started out in 1959 as [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Primettes[/lastfm].  After a couple of years of hanging around Hitsville U.S.A. Barry Gordy gave the girls a shot and they officially became part of Motown.  The rest is music history.  They still reign Supreme as America’s most successful vocal group.  At their peak in the mid 60’s they rivaled The Beatles in popularity.

Much like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beatles[/lastfm] it’s clear you had to have the talent but getting in front of the audience of The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the most important venues you could play in those days.  Today marks the anniversary of the day The Supremes wowed the world and that “really big show” in 1964.
