Actor/Director Kevin Smith is bringing to life a [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Warren Zevon[/lastfm] song and he plans on filming it in Detroit, this year. Smith is breathing life in to the song “Hit Somebody,” which shares the title of the film.
Smith told MTV News that “it’s this very wonderful, soaring, moving story that’s also bittersweet and very, very funny, about a hockey player who just wants to play hockey, who loves hockey so much, but just sucks at it. The only thing he can do to be on a team is just be the enforcer, just be the guy who goes out there and beats the s— out of people.”
The film is set in the 1970s and like the song, is about a hockey player who is only good at fighting. The movie has another Detroit tie. The lyrics to “Hit Somebody” were actually penned by Mitch Albom.
Starring in the film are Kyle Gallner, Nicholas Braun, and Michael Parks. “Hit Somebody” should film sometime near the end of 2011 and will be Kevin Smith’s final movie.
