Big 4 Bicentennial Hits From 1976

1976 was America’s 200th Birthday..and a great year for music!

My mother had one of those plates on her 1976 Dodge Aspen station wagon! Did it have wood paneling, ala “The Family Truckster”? You better believe it! AM radio only, of course. I remember every one of these songs on todays Big 4 at 4 on WOMC, and an urban legend surrounding one of them. The scream in Love Rollercoaster, by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Ohio Players,[/lastfm] was supposed to be a woman getting murdered in the studio. It’s actually a male member of the Players, William “Billy” Beck , who does that blood-curdling scream. Sorry, conspiracy theorists!
