The Knack, ELO Rock ‘Super 8’ Soundtrack

Not only is Super 8 at great movie, the soundtrack is right off of WOMC’s playlist!

Saw Super 8 Saturday night, and it more than lived up to the hype. I wasn’t the one one either, it was #1 at the box office with over $ 37 million dollars. I’m already a huge JJ Abrams fan, I saw every episode of ‘Lost” and loved his “Star Trek” reboot last summer, and who doesn’t love a Spielberg movie?

The movie, about a bunch of kids who film a train wreck making a zombie movie with a ‘Super 8’ camara, which turns into an ordeal when an alien escapes the wreckage, is set in a little Ohio town in 1979. Abrams nails the look, feel, and especially the sound of 1979 perfectly. It’s one of the reasons the movie works so well. You’ll hear [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Knack[/lastfm] doing My Sharona’, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]ELO [/lastfm]with ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’, Le Freak by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chic[/lastfm] and more. I was about the same age as the kids in the movie in ’79, and was totally sold. I wore all those ugly paisley shirts and lived in a house with paneling and shag carpet when I was their age! About the only thing a little off was the hairstyles: The boys all have the[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Justin Beiber[/lastfm] thing going, rather than that groovy ‘Feathered” look we all rocked back in the day.

I won’t spoil the movie for you, but if you like classic Spielberg, you’ll love Super 8. It’s a little ‘Close Encounters’, and little ‘E.T.’, like you may have heard, but there’s also some ‘Stand by Me’ in there as well. JJ, like Spielberg, does develop characters well, he did with the first couple of seasons of “Lost”. You care about the characters in this movie. I don’t know if it’s going to be a block buster out of the gate, but I think this one will stick around all summer. I’m ready to see it again!
