Former Tigers pitcher Brad Penny is expected to arrive in Japan sometime tomorrow and join the Softbank Hawks with Japan’s Pacific League.
Former Tigers pitcher Brad Penny has signed what is apparently the biggest one year deal for an American player ever in Japan. Fox Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal says it’s a one year deal worth 4 million dollars. Plus there’s a bonus package worth another 3.5 million depending on his performance. We’re also hearing that there is a mutual option for 2013 worth something like 4.5 million. Penny’s new team is called the Softbank Hawks and they play in Japan’s Pacific League.
Penny, 33, went 11 and 11 with the Tigers last season with a 5.30 ERA. Over the years Penny has also logged time with the Dodgers, Red Sox, Giants and Cardinals.
