Keeping tabs on my “barometer” gas stations in Metro Detroit, prices seemed to be a bit nervous during the past week. They dropped a bit but when push came to shove, they had risen.
At one point during the past week gas prices dipped just a bit falling at many stations to $3.39 a gallon. But alas, they went back up again to $3.45 to $3.49. Many hiked prices up even more to $3.56 to $3.59. World crude prices were the main driving factor.
The Michigan AAA says statewide, gas prices have risen by 11 cents a gallon over the past week to an average of $3.52. Some are predicting $4.05 gas by spring and $4.50 or higher in time for our simmer driving trips.
Checking with the website michigangasprices.com the lowest price we could find in Metro Detroit was at $3.24 at the Ammex station at West Lafayette and the Ambassador Bridge in the city. The Marathon at Plymouth and Schaefer, also in Detroit, was dispensing motion lotion for $3.29 a gallon. Other cheap gas was found at the 7-11 at Van Borne and Monroe in Taylor where the price was also $3.29.
As for the most expensive gallon in Michigan, that dishonor once again goes to the BP station at Middlebelt and Wick in Romulus at $3.89 a gallon.
