The London Chop House Returns Down There! (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
This is one of the best news stories we’ve had in many years. The London Chop House is coming back to Detroit. This is great news and the reason it’s reopening is because Detroit is making a big comeback.
Veal Oscar. Dover Sole. The Pancho Burger. They’re all coming back to Detroit when the London Chop House reopens on February 20th in its original spot at 155 W. Congress downtown. VIPs will get to see the reincarnated legend at a special invitation only party on Valentine’s Day.
The restaurant closed back in 1991 due to a lack of business after a decades long run. For years and years, your “Big Night Out” had to be at the Chop House. Just about every visiting celebrity dined there.
London Chop House owner Nico Gatzaros says he’s making the move because the city of Detroit is on the rebound. Gatzros also owns the Fishbone’s chain of restaurants along with Wah-Hoo. So the Chop House joins another venerable all time favorite that has returned to Detroit – Joe Muer Seafood. It broke my heart when that place closed back in 1998.
This is one of the most palpable signs recently that this town is on its way back and it feels really good, doesn’t it?!
