Two Best Cooking Tips Ever, Tip From Frugal Gourmet Jeff Smith, Tip From My Wife Cindy, Cooking Tips, Any Pan Can Be No Stick

Hot Pans & Pots–Even These–Cool Oil, No Stick! (Photo by Neilson Barnard/Getty Images)

I like to cook around the Schuman household and I’m fairly good at it. And over the years I’ve learned the two best cooking tips ever! Both are extremely simple. One came from my wonderful wife. The other came from the Frugal Gourmet Jeff Smith.

Back in the 80s before he became implicated with alleged sexual misconduct, Jeff Smith was a red hot chef. He was known as the Frugal Gourmet and one time he was visiting my radio station in Detroit and we got to talking about non-stick pans. He said I didn’t have to worry about non-stick plans and I asked him:  “How could that be?” He said always remember this: “Hot pan, cool oil, no stick.” And he’s right. If you’ll get your pan nice and hot before adding your oil, virtually all pans become non-stick. Try it for yourself! Smith passed away in 2004.

The other extremely simple tip came from my wife, Cindy. I love to cook fish and once she noticed that I was spilling grease all over the place trying to flip fried fish filets with a spatula. She grabbed two forks and turned the fish precisely and with complete control and no spillage of the oil. It really works! Give it a try.

Simple tips but I wanted to pass them along to you to make your cooking life a little easier!
