Madonna Booed After Short Concert In Paris

Author: Steve Wiseman

Madonna performed an intimate concert at Paris’ Olympia club last night, that was also streamed live on YouTube. Her “intimate set” turned nasty as fans booed, chanted “Rembourssez! Rembourssez! (We want our money back!)”, and turned to insult by chanting “salope,” the French word for slut. The reason for the boos and chants? Madonna was only on stage for 45 minutes and 10 to 15 minutes of that was used to make a speech.

Part of her 10 minute speech was used to address French right-wing politician Marine Le Pen, who is pressing charges after Madonna screened a video featuring a photo of Le Pen’s face with a swastika superimposed on it. “I know that I made a certain Marine Le Pen very angry with me. And it’s not my intention to make enemies,” Madonna told the crowd before adding: “It’s my intention to promote tolerance. And when we start saying that we have to get rid of this person or we have to get rid of that person, because then we’ll have a better place, it starts to sound like something else, it starts to sound like something scary. So the next time you want to point the finger at somebody and blame them for a problem in your life, take that finger and point it back at you.”

After her short performance, Madonna did not reappear on stage for an encore. If you were watching the livestream on YouTube, you missed concert goers begin their booing, chanting, and throwing bottles on the stage.

You can watch a rebroadcast of the concert, for the remainder of today (July 27th), here.
