Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones don’t often get together anymore — though they’ve spent a bit of quality time in each other’s company this year at press conferences promoting their recently released live album Celebration Day. On Sunday night, they’ll be together once again in Washington, D.C. as Led Zeppelin are feted at the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors event.
And the reunion will last at least one more day: Plant, Page and Jones will be visiting fellow Kennedy Center honoree David Letterman less than 24 hours later, as they appear on Late Show With David Letterman Monday night.
Other than Zeppelin and Letterman, the other artists being honored by the Kennedy Center this year include actor Dustin Hoffman, ballerina Natalia Makarova and blues legend Buddy Guy.
For those unfamiliar with The Kennedy Center Honors, the show doesn’t feature performances by the honorees; instead, other artists pay tribute to them as they sit in a balcony along with the President and the First Lady. So, no performances by Plant, Page and Jones are expected at either the Kennedy Center Honors or on Letterman; the three former bandmates will simply appear together. The show is not broadcasted live: an edited version will air on CBS on December 26. But CBS Local will be there, live-tweeting the event from the Radio.com account. We’ll also have a wrap-up after the show is over Sunday night.
