Bad Company: Grammy Museum Performance Last Night….TV Soon

Bad Company’s interview, audience question-and-answer session and performance at L.A.’s Grammy Museum on Tuesday was taped for future airing by AXS TV. The three living original members — singer Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke– spoke fondly of their very early days, before they even planned to have a band together.

Bad Company guitarist Mick Ralphs on his and Paul Rodgers’ initial lack of planning for a band:

“The thing is, it wasn’t actually planned to be a band, so there was like no master plan. It was Paul and I writing songs together, ’cause we’d met on various tours of England. He had a band called Peace and I was in Mott the Hoople and we shared a lot of common interests in songs. And we just wanted to extend that just to continue to write together and make an album. We didn’t really plan at that point to make a band.”

The trio also went into detail about the loose way their classic debut album was recorded. Rodgers recalled how he’d sung the album’s title track outdoors when recording it. In addition to discussing that and a lot more, they performed:

  • “Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy”
  • “Feel Like Makin’ Love”
  • “Bad Company”
  • “Shooting Star”
  • “Can’t Get Enough”

An excerpt of Bad Company performing “Can’t Get Enough” Tuesday at L.A.’s Grammy Museum:

Bad Company starts its 40th Anniversary co-headlining tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd on Saturday in Rancho Mirage, California.  That same show will play here at the DTE Energy Music Theater on July 23rd.
