Do you remember where you were when you first heard a Beach Boys song on the radio?
Bobby & Stacey got to ask Mike Love that very question:
“When we first started out, our first song was called Surfin’ and there was a contest at a radio station where they would play half a dozen recordings that had never been heard before and the one that got the most call requests would be chosen to be added to the station’s playlist the next week. So my mom is one of eight kids, we had so many cousins, aunts, uncles phone in that we easily won that contest and we all listened to that station knowing that song would come on!”
Then they asked the questions that everyone wants to know the answer to: Which Beach Boys song is your absolute favorite?
“The most creative and successful, that I’m proud of being a collaborator with my cousin Brian on, is Good Vibrations because it’s unique and the biggest hit we ever had in the 60s, and when Kokomo came along in 1988 it surpassed it, but they’re both great songs. Good Vibrations is so ahead of its time and Rolling Stone magazine once said it was the single of the century. That’s kinda cool. But there are several songs depending on what your mood is that are fantastic by the Beach Boys, which I really like.”
