Here are suggestions from the experts for great go-to bottles when you’re hosting a party or just putting together a special, intimate meal.
Don & Sons Pinot Noir
This is your wine steward Lisa White’s pick of the month!
This beautiful wine pours into your glass and looks like a jewel with expressive floral and dark berry notes to the nose. When you taste this wine you will understand why the winery has grown to one of the largest North American family owned wine producers stemming from an Italian immigrant that has been passed down through four generations. Grown along the Sonoma coast, the winds and cool nights added to idyllic grape growing conditions producing a smooth, well-balanced, superb 2012 vintage. This wine would easily pair with a pork tenderloin, mushroom filled ravioli, or a fig and pear tart.
Arcturos Late Harvest Riesling
This is your wine steward Jack Easterhouse’s pick of the month!
April is Michigan Wine Month and this Riesling represents so much that is great about Northern Michigan. It is vibrantly alive, fresh and highlighted with a balanced sweetness. This wine is surely one that will be a classic in your cellar.
2012 was a great vintage for many of the aromatic white wines such as Riesling. The combination of perfectly ripe fruit and a longer growing season led to a near perfect chemistry in the winery.
This wine shows aromas of fresh fruit followed by concentrated flavors of apples, apricots and peaches complemented by honey undertones. I find this to be a truly delicious wine. Proper cellaring will reward the patient in about five years, but it can also be enjoyed now. Spicy ethnic cuisine, German foods, Asian Fusion, Blue Cheese and Peach Cobbler will all pair well with this wine.
