Hollies: 50th Anniversary Compilation Due In October

The Hollies will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first album with a 50-song compilation from Parlophone. Due October 21st, 50 at Fifty includes the hits that earned the Manchester, England group induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with album cuts, early hits that didn’t cross to the States and a brand new track.

The new song, “Skylarks” was recorded this year by the band’s current line-up, which includes ’60s members (guitarist) Tony Hicks and (drummer) Bobby Elliott — who co-wrote it with current lead vocalist Peter Howarth. Original lead singer Allan Clarke retired over a decade ago, while Graham Nash has been partnered with David Crosby and Steven Stills since 1969.

The Hollies have announced plans for an extensive series of European shows from September through November. As for North America, Bobby Elliott tells us, “We’d love to visit the States again and I hear that a couple of promoters are interested.” But nothing is anywhere near firm.

Elliott says he was contacted by the curator of the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. They’re planning an exhibit in Liverpool — and he’s agreed to lend them some early Hollies items to display.
