The Kinks Releasing 50th Anniversary Box Set ‘The Anthology 1964-1971’

While Kinks fans were already somewhat anticipating a new greatest hits package in honor of the influential band’s fiftieth anniversary, the two-disc The Essential Kinks out on Oct. 14 via Legacy Recordings with liner notes by David Bowie, today there is a much more extensive reason to get excited.

The Kinks will release another career-spanning set — The Anthology 1964-1971 — on Nov. 18 via BMG/InGrooves. It’s a five-CD, 100-plus-song retrospective billed as the “most extensive” Kinks release of its kind, ever.

But I don’t want it to be a Ray Davies show where he lets his little brother stand in the corner, which he likes to do. It has to be done properly and respectfully. We have so much great music that goes back so many years. We both want to do something next year.”
