The Grateful Dead Will Be Touring Once Again, Sort Of

by Marty Rosenbaum, WXRT Chicago

Following the incredible success of their five “Fare Thee Well” shows it appears The Grateful Dead aren’t ready to hang it up quite yet. That being said, the outfit will be a bit different than what fans saw just a few weeks ago.

Billboard is reporting that a new outfit titled “Dead & Company” will make their debut this Halloween at Madison Square Garden. Dead & Company will feature three of the four “core members” (Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann) with Phil Lesh being the only member not involved. Additionally, Dead & Company will feature John Mayer on guitar, Oteil Burbridge on bass, and Jeff Chimenti on keys.

Bob Weir told Billboard, “It was a matter of who wanted to get back out on the road and keep doing it.” The Madison Square Garden event will not be Dead & Company’s only show as Bob Weir confirmed they are in talks to book additional dates.
