Springsteen: Tribute to Glenn Frey And Is The Boss Coming To The Palace?

Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to Glenn Frey at the start of his encores last night (Tuesday) in Chicago.

Springsteen did a stripped down version of “Take It Easy” on acoustic guitar, accompanied only by Soozie Tyrell on violin. It’s a song he’s used to playing as he’s done it with Jackson Browne, who co-wrote the song with Frey, when he’s popped up at Browne’s gigs over the years.

It’s the second show in a row Springsteen has paid tribute to a fallen rock legend — during the first show of The River Tour last Saturday in Pittsburgh he did a cover of David Bowie‘s “Rebel Rebel.” That show is now on sale at Live.BruceSpringsteen.net.

Meanwhile, rumors are flying about the extension of the “River” tour including a Spring date in Auburn Hills:  The tour, which is in Chicago tonight (Tuesday), is scheduled to run through March 17th in Los Angeles. The rumor was that it would then head to The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for an HBO special, but now there is a report that he will add a third L.A. show on March 19th and then jog around the country before heading back to the Northeast, wrapping up in Brooklyn, New York at the end of April. From there the tour would head to Europe before returning to the U.S. at the end of the summer for stadium dates.

None of this is confirmed, although an announcement is expected next week. Springsteen’s office was unavailable for comment.

Rumored additional Springsteen cities and dates:

  • Los Angeles, CA – March 19th (third show)
  • Portland, OR – March 22nd
