There’s a search underway for a 2-year-old boy who was dragged by an alligator into the water around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy was with his family visiting from Nebraska sitting along the Seven Seas Lagoon shoreline when the gator attacked.
“The father entered the water and tried to grab the child from the gator, but was not successful,” Orange County Sheriff’s Jerry Demings said.
Parents then alerted a lifeguard of the attack. It is estimated the alligator was between 4 and 7 feet long.
Rescue crews, including the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Reedy Creek Fire Rescue and Florida Fish & Wildlife, were actively looking for the child early this morning in a search-and-recovery effort.
Authorities used helicopters and maritime units with SONAR equipment and intense spotlights in the search.
While there are no signs warning of gators near Seven Seas Lagoon, there are notices posted against swimming in the man-made lake.
