Where to Find Pokemon in Metro Detroit

Are you playing Pokemon Go? Our friends at MLive.com put together a decent list of the hottest locations to play and I’ve added some of my own observations.

The Detroit Zoo is probably one of the hottest spots around; and is holding a two-day Pokemon Go – The Great Detroit Zoo Adventure on July 30 and 31.

Ford Field is a gym, and you will supposedly find a ton of Pokemon outside.

Several Pokemon have been spotted on Belle Isle, the Renaissance Center, Hart Plaza, Lafayette Park, Chene Park, Riverfront Park (you’ll findsquirtle, krabby, seadra, and psyduck there.) There are several Pokestops along the Riverfront and two gyms (right now they are controlled by one of the Riverfront Security Guards who plays on his breaks.)

Comerica Park has a few Pokestops and we caught several Pokemon there.

You can find several while waiting for a flight at Metro Airport.

Downtown Ferndale is supposedly a great spot. The area of 9 Mile and Woodward has several Pokestops and a gym. I was in downtown Northville the other night and didn’t find any!

Another great area is Midtown and the Wayne State campus.

I found the Spearow in the picture at a gas station on Telegraph and 11 Mile Road. And I found another one at The Hudson Cafe on Woodward (and their Hudson Salad – a nod to the famous Maurice Salad we all ate while shopping in the department store – is delicious!)

My husband and son had a lot of luck in downtown Birmingham.

Listener Steve Wiseman, who is on Level 11, called to let us know that the Royal Oak Library is teeming with Pokemon. He counted 25 people by the fountain playing the game.

According to a recent thread on Reddit more hot places are:

  • Aldi in Highland Park
  • Hazel Park – “flooded with Drowzee”
  • Hamtramck is full of Drowzee, Rattata and Pidgey
  • Downtown Berkley has Weedle, Caterpie, Spearow, Pidgey
  • There are Drowzee all over Warren. Plenty of Eevee, Pidgey, Weedles, Zubats and Rattatas. Venonats and Gastley are reasonably common. Oddish, Paras, Bellsprouts and both Nidoran are semi-common
  • Some rare Pokemon have been spotted at Macomb Community College.

I’ll keep you posted as I find more – and please let us know your best spots in the comments!
