Why Did Prince Buy The Purple Rain House?

Last year at this time it was reported that the house used in Purple Rain as the house Prince’s character grew up in was for sale for $110,000.

It turns out that the house was purchased … by Prince!

He bought the three-bedroom Minneapolis home for $117,000 cash. He never moved in or rented it to anyone, he never came up with a plan for the property, and apparently never told anyone what he intended to do with it.

Now it’s part of Prince’s estate, one of dozens of properties being overseen by Minnesota-based Bremer Trust Company. That collection includes his Paisley Park Studio and several sites in suburban Chanhassen, as well as his boyhood home in north Minneapolis.

Only exterior shots of the house were used in Purple Rain. Interior scenes were shot elsewhere.
