10-Year-Old Dies in Accident on World’s Tallest Water Slide

By: Jon Corrigan

The 10-year-old son of a Kansas state lawmaker died Sunday in an accident on a ride at the Schlittlerbahn Water Park in Kansas City.

Caleb Schwab, originally identified as 12 years old, is the son of Kansas Rep. Scott Schwab and his wife Michele. The incident occurred on the Verruckt water slide, which is heralded as the tallest in the world.

No further have been released.

“Since the day he was born, he brought abundant joy to our family and all those who he came into contact with,” the parents said. “As we try and mend our home with him no longer with us, we are comforted knowing he believed in his savior, Jesus, and they are forever together now. We will see him another day.”

Strapping two to three people in a raft, which must weigh between 400 and 500 pounds, the Verruckt sends riders 17 stories – higher than Niagara Falls – at speeds of 65+ mph.

Riders must be at least 54 inches.

It’s total height of 168 feet seven inches is five feet taller than the previous record holder, a water slide in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

The Schlittlerbahn Water Park is closed for a full investigation.
