Barbra Streisand Educates Siri on Pronouncing Her Last Name

Let's call the whole thing off.

Barbra Streisand’s legendary perfectionism has found its way to the age of iPhones. Specifically, the Oscar, GRAMMY, and Emmy-winning legend took issue with the way Siri, Apple’s personal assistant bot, pronounced her last name. While many of us (like Siri) say “Streiz-AND,” Barbra has something else in mind. She wishes that Siri said “Strei-sand,” softening the whole affect.

“She pronounces my name wrong,” Streisand said. “With a soft S, like sand on the beach. I’ve been saying this for my whole career.”

Dissatisfied with the service, Barbra pulled the ultimate diva move and asked to speak to the manager: Apple CEO Tim Cook.

“I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook, and he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name, finally, with the next update on Sept. 30,” she said.
