By: Jon Corrigan

Ice Road Truckers star Darrell Ward died in a plane crash on Sunday in Rock Creek, Montana. He was 52.

According to TMZ, Ward was traveling from Dallas to Montana to begin filming a new documentary which, ironically, was about the recovery of plane wrecks.

Ward and his co-pilot, Mark Melotz, 56, were both killed when their Cessina 182-D single-engine plane went down. Authorities say it appears they were attempting to land near the Rock Creek exit on Interstate 90.

“Something went drastically wrong,’’Missoula County Sheriff’s Department Patrol Captain Bill Burt said.
