Think about those overdue books you or someone in your family never returned. Now they are being treated like unpaid parking tickets with the consequence of jail time. Paula Laurita speaks about the new policy at her library, “We have too many outstanding books that haven’t been returned. People with several hundred dollars worth of library materials that are sitting at home. Sometimes we hear, ‘I lent my library card to my cousin’. I just want to ask, ‘Would you lend your cousin your credit card? If they go and get $700 worth of clothing and you’re responsible for the bill, would you do that?’”
The cost of overdue books do add up, currently the library is at over $200,000 of missing literature. Repeat offenders could face 30 days in jail. Oddity Central has more details.
