These ‘Vampire’ Uber Drivers are Using Scare Tactics to Scam Riders

By: Jon Corrigan

Uber drivers in China have started using a “vampire” scam to scare passengers out of rides and money.

Using creepy and distorted profile pictures, the drivers accept rides from unassuming Uber users then either won’t show up – forcing people to cancel – or hope the riders get spooked and elect not to get in their car.

Either way, the end result is a cancellation fee that is charged to the rider.

According to Chinese media, Uber is aware of the issue and is currently evaluating user reports.
