App Offers Free Coffee If Phone Not Used While Driving

By: Beau Daniels

Here’s an incentive to stop using a smart phone to increase driver safety. Driving Barista is an app that offers coffee coupons if a driver doesn’t use their smart phone while driving. GPS is used to calculate miles driven ant the gyro on the phone can detect if it was picked up. After reaching a certain distance with no phone activity a coupon is rewarded for “a cup of blended or iced coffee.”

This safety app if currently being used in Japan and hopefully makes it’s way to the US. I’m sure many company’s would be interested in offering some sort of reward for being connected to the publicity of safe driving. Toyota is involved in Japan, “In line with contributing to the ultimate goal of achieving zero traffic fatalities and zero traffic accidents, Toyota has implemented automobile safety measures as one of its top priority management concerns. By carrying out a new traffic safety education initiative together with Komeda and KDDI, we hope to further reduce traffic accidents.”

Oddity Central offers more details about the app and stats on the dangers of using a phone while driving.
