Publishers Pan Macmillan and Henry Holt announced Thursday (Oct. 13) that they have jointly acquired worldwide rights for Elton John’s “no-holds-barred” as-yet-untitled memoir, reports The New York Times.

A representative for Holt said the company had won out over two other publishers after representatives for each traveled to Atlanta to meet with Mr. John and his husband, David Furnish. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.

“I’m not prone to being a nostalgic person,” John said in a statement. “I’m often accused of only looking forward to my next gig or creative project. It’s come as quite a surprise how cathartic I am finding the process of writing my memoirs.

“As I look back, I realize what a crazy life I have had the extreme privilege of living… My life has been one helluva roller coaster ride and it’s still lumbering on.”

In a five-decade career, John has won five Grammys and an Academy Award, and composed classic songs including “Rocket Man,” “I’m Still Standing” and “Tiny Dancer,” all written with his longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin.

Sir Elton John, who is 69, is said to be working with music writer Alexis Petridis on the book, with a projected drop date some time in 2019.

This past February, John released his 33rd studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night, and continues to tour the world regularly while holding down a residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
