Motown Museum: Major Expansion Announced

The Motown Museum in Detroit has announced a major expansion.

With the goal of turning the complex into a “world-class destination,” the birthplace of the iconic soul label will add new exhibit space surrounding the original Motown building on West Grand Boulevard. The foundation running the museum has been on an extensive fundraising drive and has acquired properties in recent years.

The $50 million project will bring the museum to 50,000 square feet — and will add a performance theater, interactive exhibits and, of course, more retail space.

No timetable for construction has yet been announced. (Detroit Free PressOakland Press )
