Why Pokemon Go Is Better Than A Fitness App

Author: Stacey DuFord

According to a recent study by Microsoft and Stanford University Pokémon Go has the potential to add 2.825 million years of additional life expectancy to players in the United States.

Pokémon Go players walked – on average – an extra 192 steps per day and serious players walked an average of 1,473 more steps a day. That means that Pokémon Go players in the U.S. added 144 billion steps in their first 30 days of play.  And, because walking more makes people more healthy, the researchers figure that players add 41.4 more days to their life expectancy.

The great thing is that Pokemon Go is helping people that regular fitness apps, who are basically addressing people who already work out, don’t. Researchers say this has “…significant implications for public health.”

So keep looking for that Ditto (and when you find it please tell Stacey where it is!)
